Where’s me amygdala?

The steadfastly interesting Guardian newspaper questions our beliefs and convictions – literally.

Very interesting piece on how our brains form opinions and filter incoming information based on such existing beliefs. It suggests that since we live such a privileged life in the West, we have a lot more time and room in our skull for thinking. However, I'm not so sure that people are using this free time for higher thinking. Surely the trend for the majority is longer working hours, being less politically and socially aware and spending more time watching slurry television?

It also goes on to suggest how beliefs can be challenged, thus facilitating brainwashing.
If you say something often enough, people will start to believe you. They say: “This manipulation of belief happens every day. Politics is a fertile arena...”.

Must be how FF keep getting elected. The modus operandi for the brainwashing campaign in the next general election will be to keep repeating: “Bertie is a socialist, Bertie is a socialist, Bertie is a socialist, Bertie is a socialist, Bertie is a socialist, Bertie is a socialist …”

In Fact, Ah, Welcome

Welcome to the first installment of In Fact, Ah, a veritable smorgasbord of fact and opinion from citizen journalists. The contributors will be many and their input varied. In fact, ah, we will endeavour to appeal to all tastes: current affairs; photography; music; film; sport and more. And like any good amateur media outlet, here you will find disagreement, contradiction, polemic and the occasional misspeling. Pedants beware.

Anybody wishing to contribute is most welcome to do so. However, intellectually incontinent* Sun readers need not apply.

*phrase coined by the musically incontinent Bob Geldof
